Case Study | Ravenhall Prison

Victoria’s $670 million Ravenhall Prison Complex is designed for prisoners to be held safely and securely, while also being given every chance to turn their lives around and to enable them to engage in work, education and rehabilitation programs.

Initially the facility will hold 1,000 adult male prisoners, with the capacity to accommodate up to 1,300 prisoners to meet potential future demand. Key features of Ravenhall Prison include a 5-bed Forensic Mental Health Unit, and a 25-bed Close Supervision Unit, allowing for the safe and effective management of prisoners with mental health disorders and challenging and complex behaviours. Delivered through a Public Private Partnership (PPP), awarded to the GEO Group by the Victorian Department of Justice.

As a large scale modern prison, the Ravenhall Complex performs a multitude of operational functions, each with specific design requirements. The Enware team were integral in delivering water solutions through the design and construction phases, from commercial kitchen and food processing to medical and mental health facilities, public and outdoor spaces, along with containment cells and common areas.

We were able to co-design a unique cell solution for this project using the latest version of our Smart Flow™ Water Management system. Smart Flow™ allows water delivery, temperature and flow to be remotely managed and monitored, enabling servicing in a safe, reliable and practical manner for the life of the facility.

“The Ravenhall Prison project demonstrates Enware’s ability to create bespoke designs, project manage and deliver large scale complex projects. We brought together our full complement of design and project management expertise to ensure Enware delivered on time and within budget.”

The Smart Flow™ Water Management system installed at Ravenhall installed using the latest IoT technology, also has the ability to assist in reducing the risk of Legionella. Prefabricated pods were completed off site with pods trucked in daily. We were able to align our manufacturing schedule to ensure products required to complete each cell were supplied on time, enabling the onsite construction team to adhere to their build schedule.

Through our unique multi button interface panel design the inmate gains independence allowing the user full control for their daily ablutionary activities. Enware plumbing fittings and hardware combined with the installation of our Smart Flow™ Water Management system provides the ability for the facility to adjust an inmates experience, safely and efficiently from outside the cell.

“I’m proud of our team’s ability to come together to develop and deliver a range of products that will serve the Victorian community for many years to come.” Adam Degnan - Managing Director, Enware Australia
