Case Study: Yatala Labour Prison Redevelopment

Background

In 2022, South Australia’s largest metropolitan prison began its extensive $180 million redevelopment.

The redevelopment aimed to add 270 high-security beds across three communal units, aiming to enhance the safety for staff, inmates and visitors.

Features would include a new master control room, child-friendly visiting areas, secure walkways, upgraded accommodations, a commercial kitchen, and an open-plan admissions area for medical assessments. These features aimed to improve correctional conditions, reduce reoffending rates, and support rehabilitation efforts.

Solution

Enware collaborated with Grieve Gillet Architects, who integrated our Custodian and Smart Flow System into the expansion.

Enware’s Custodian Secure Bathroom Range, which won the Good Design Award in 2020, is engineered to enhance both safety and comfort in secure environments and designed to support the overall rehabilitation process and provide greater normalcy and user control over daily bathroom use

Additionally, our Custodian system was integrated with Enware’s Smart Flow water management system, allowing remote monitoring and control. This technology enables the facilities management team to have centralised visibility and control over water in secure areas.

The Smart Flow WMS provides personalised adjustment of water access, temperature and operation based on individual needs and behavioural requirements, improving safety, asset management and water efficiency.
